The Best Super Bowl-Winning Defenses of All-Time
Where does Philly’s D stack up after SB LIX victory?
There was one unit standing between the Kansas City Chiefs and a Super Bowl three-peat: the Philadelphia Eagles defense. In their biggest test of the season, the Eagles played one of their best games of the year. Philadelphia’s defense forced 3 Kansas City turnovers, sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes 6 times, and only allowed K.C. to convert 3 of 12 third and fourth downs. Eagles cornerback Cooper DeJean had a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Philadelphia linebacker Josh Sweat racked up 2.5 sacks on the way to a dominating 40-22 Eagles victory.
Philadelphia’s stellar defense was the primary reason they beat Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night. That got me thinking, where does this Eagles defense stack up against some of the great Super Bowl-winning defenses in NFL history? That’s what I’ll cover in this week’s article.
