Is it Over for John Harbaugh in Baltimore?
The Ravens head coach’s time might be up with the franchise after a 1-4 start
They say all good things must come to an end. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is the second-longest tenured coach in the NFL behind Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomlin. The elder Harbaugh brother has been the head coach in Baltimore since 2008. He won a Super Bowl, captured 6 AFC North division titles, made the playoffs 12 times, and was named Coach of the Year in 2019. But the NFL is a results league. “What have you done for me lately?” is the league’s unofficial mantra. And the Ravens have started this season 1-4 with a point differential of -36.
Baltimore’s 44-10 blowout loss to the Texans at home on Sunday afternoon might be the beginning of the end for John Harbaugh as the Ravens’ headman. While it warrants mention that Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson sat out with a hamstring injury on Sunday, that doesn’t explain Baltimore’s lackluster defense against a struggling Houston offense. The Ravens allowed 417 total yards against the Texans on Sunday, and Houston converted 8 of 13 third and fourth downs while gaining 417 yards of total offense. Baltimore’s defense has long been a cornerstone of its franchise’s identity, but even that has failed them through the first 5 weeks of the 2025 NFL season. Every year, there is a team or two that has the “year from hell.” This might be the year from hell for Baltimore, and it’s not certain that John Harbaugh will make it to the end of the campaign. That’s what I’ll be covering in this week’s article.
