The NFL playoffs are a cruel mistress. Everything is magnified, including and especially mistakes. Multiple teams had their Super Bowl hopes dashed due to missed field goals. A pair of winning teams clinched their victories because defenders were able to hold on to interceptions. Sometimes the difference between going home and moving on is the hands of a defensive player or the right foot of a kicker. So it goes.
Legends aren’t made in the NFL in September or October. The best of the best play their best in January and February. Of the final four teams, three of them have won multiple Super Bowls previously (the Ravens, 49ers, and Chiefs). The remaining team, the Detroit Lions has never even made it to the Super Bowl in the history of their franchise. Detroit was able to win two home playoff games by a combined 9 points to secure their chance at immortality in Santa Clara on Sunday. How will they fare?
